share your chewy sprees

i get the honor sometimes at relevant church to lead our church into the time of giving. normally, i read scripture or tell a testimony about tithing. what i was to share came to me this  saturday while taking finn to QT for a treat.

a few months ago he came down the stairs with half a box of chewy sprees. we can all agree those are simply the best candy in the world. he began to share them with everyone. mac, beau, maggie, even libby claire. he was super generous. that seemed a little odd to me. of course, we have raised our children to be givers...but chewy sprees are hard not to hoard.
this week i promised finn if he did all of his chores i would take him to QT for a treat. i was thinking he would pick a slushy or ice cream but he made his way over to the candy isle. he grabbed a box of chewy sprees. once we got back in the car and the box was opened i asked for a few. finn immediately said "NO WAY!" he then began to explain he had worked hard for these sprees and didn't want to share with anyone.

in that moment i realized that is us as givers. we have two types of hearts. as christians we know everything we have is God's. even if we work hard for it, it is His. so, do we hoard? are we reluctant givers? do we think it is ours and not His?

what type of giver are you?

2 corinthians 9: 6-7

The Cheerful Giver

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
